Welcome to the April 2005 edition and, in particular, to our new subscribers this month. Spring has arrived in full force here in the Montreal area. It took only a few warm days to melt away the snow and ice, with a day or two of rain to clean things up a little. I hope that things are well, wherever you may be in our world.

A quick update on the medical situation here. My follow-up visit to the neurologist was positive, although they are now saying that I should expect about a 5 to 6 month recovery period for the carotid artery to fully regenerate. Better than the alternative! Thanks to everyone for the "get well" wishes. I hope to be back to full speed sooner than later.

Our Monthly Special Zone for April features sites about the passing of the Pope. Also, April 22 is the 35th anniversary of Earth Day, and April 25th marks the beginning of Passover.

Shameless Solicitation! I would like to thank a few Newsletter subscribers who have generously contributed with pledges to the Baillie Birdathon 2005. They are Brian Jeffrey, Dick Pearce and James Strader.

I will be heading out for the Birdathon during the first week of May (not sure of the exact date yet), but migration is well under way and we anticipate seeing a great number of species.

You still have time to support the cause. It is a great one and one very important to me. All the details can be found in last month's Newsletter.

I want to particularly thank James Strader, of Rock Village, Massachusetts, who sent along a very generous donation, together with the following note which he asked me to share with all of our Newsletter subscribers:

Please find enclosed a $100 check for my pledge in your name to the 2005 BAILLIE BIRDATHON. I hope you are as successful as you were last year at the 2004 Baillie Birdathon.

You have done so much for the Shortwave Community over the last 30 years that this is my way of saying thank you! Now for a challenge to ALL READERS of the Radio HF Internet Newsletter.

Sheldon has spent countless hours over the last 7 years assembling this unique newsletter for all of us FREE!! The last time I talked to Sheldon he was emailing the newsletter to over 1500 people around the globe. In seven years Sheldon has only asked us twice to sponsor something near and dear to him. Last year only 5 subscribers of this newsletter bothered to sponsor Sheldon.

This year I challenge all subscribers to this newsletter to donate something to this worthwhile cause. Just think, if everybody gave at least $1.00 the Shortwave Community could raise a minimum of $1500 for Sheldon's good cause.

Respectfully,

Jim Strader
Rock Village, MA, USA

Thanks so much, Jim. Now, on to this month's Newsletter.

Previous issues of this newsletter can be found www.anarc.org/cidx/radiohf/. [right here! — Ed.] They can also now be found at the new Radio H.F. Internet Newsletter Yahoo Group (groups.yahoo.com/group/hfnewsletter/).
