Welcome to the May 2004 edition. I extend a special welcome any new subscribers to the Newsletter. As usual, your contributions, as well as your comments, are always appreciated.

Flowers are sprouting; trees are greening up and temperatures are in the double-digits here in the Montreal area. It's just great to be looking forward to another summer season here in town.

It has been great to have the opportunity to meet so many Newsletter subscribers at various hamfests over the past few months. If you're at an event where Radio HF is in attendance, please stop by and say hello. You'll find a calendar of events in the Newsletter.

Shameless solicitation, one last time! In just a few days I will be participating in this year's Baillie Birdathon, raising funds for Bird Studies Canada.

Last month, I solicited your support. Many of you have been receiving this free Newsletter for more than six years. This is an easy way to show your support and appreciation for this monthly service.

Of the thousands of people who receive the Newsletter each month, I would personally and publicly like to thank the two subscribers who made contributions to support this important cause; Mr. Brian Jeffrey of Carp, Ontario and Mr. Dick Pearce of Brattleboro, Vermont. Your support is greatly appreciated.

It's still not too late to help the cause. Even the smallest pledge goes a long, long way in support of a cause that I believe so strongly in.

If you have any questions, and particularly if you would like to make a pledge (Visa/Mastercard/cheque), please feel free to contact me, either by e-mail, or by telephone at +1-450-671-3773. If you're in Canada, you can reach me, toll free, at 1-800-463-3773.

New Icom IC-703 and IC-703-PLUS (with 6 metres)

The new IC-703 is Icom's product for the QRP enthusiasts. Focusing on QRP performance rather than an all-in-one solution, the IC-703 covers the Amateur Bands 160m to 10m (Plus version includes 6 metres). Depending on the power supply the rig is capable of 5W @ 9.6VDC and 10W @ 13.8VDC, plus it has an internal antenna tuner. Icom engineers have addressed a lot of the concerns about current consumption and other comments gathered over the past two years regarding QRP performance. While it looks and feels like the IC-706MKIIG, this rig is a QRP version, not a replacement.

Texpro Snap-On Chokes

Modern electronic equipment, both entertainment and industrial, are frequently plagued with radio frequency interference (RFI) from external sources. This interference can severely affect the performance of your equipment. Snap-on chokes can help eliminate interference. Snap-on chokes can be installed on cable up to 10mm in diameter without any access to the ends and without the risk of voiding any equipment warranty. For rigid cables several pairs of cores can be connected together and for flexible cables multiple turns may be fashioned to provide substantial impedance to interfering currents.

Snap-on chokes are available from Radio HF either in packages of 3, or as single units.

For more details on these chokes, please visit RadioWorld's website (www.radioworld.ca/snapchok.php).
