Welcome to this special Iraq War edition of the Radio H.F. Internet Newsletter. Previous issues of this newsletter can be found at www.anarc.org/cidx/radiohf/index.html [right here — Ed.].
This special edition of the Newsletter will focus on websites offering radio-related information on the war currently underway in Iraq, as well as a cross section of news-, information-, opinion- and commentary-related websites dealing with the conflict. This Newsletter is distributed internationally. As a result, there may be certain subscribers who may not agree with some of the material presented here. Please understand that I am simply trying to present different points of view to help everyone get a balanced understanding of the situation.
The information included here comes from various individuals, organizations and, in some cases, countries, either directly involved in the conflict, or simply looking at it from the outside. If anyone objects to material posted on any of these sites, or if anyone is offended by any of the material included, I would ask that you forward your comments to the individuals, groups, organizations, etc. responsible for the individual sites; and not to this newsletter.
This special edition is designed to help you sift through the volumes of material out there on the Web dealing with this war. Hopefully by getting different viewpoints from websites, and from radio broadcasts, you may better be able to put this situation into perspective.
I truly wish we didn't have to go through with this, but the war is on, like it or not. Peoples' lives, and perhaps our world in general, are going to be changed forever. People from many nations will pay the ultimate sacrifice, some for a cause that they may not necessarily believe in.
Whether you support these actions or not, I am sure that you will all join with me in hoping for a speedy end to this conflict, with the hope that as few lives are lost, disrupted or altered as possible.
Some of these sites have been featured in previous editions of the Newsletter. Other sites will be new, some having only appeared in the last week or so.
We will dispense with the usual advertising material and other regular features appearing in the general editions of the Newsletter and get down to business. I'll separate the radio-related sites from the other general information.

Daniel Sampson created and maintains this indispensable resource for those of you wishing to monitor shortwave radio broadcasts in English from other countries. You can search for stations broadcasting by time, by station name, as well as link directly to the websites of each of the international broadcasters. This site will become a favourite, both during the Gulf crisis and beyond.

This is another indispensable reference list of H.F. frequencies for shortwave listeners, compiled by Larry Van Horn of Monitoring Times magazine. The list includes many aeronautical, maritime, military, emergency and other related frequencies.
Glenn Hauser's World of Radio broadcast can be heard on the radio, as well as through this website. The site also includes many useful links to radio related information, including special sections dealing with the current situation in Iraq and the Middle East. Lots of information for you to explore here.
From this one page, you will be able to access the various BBC domestic radio and television networks, plus access the BBC World Service. There is also a wealth of information on the Gulf War, as well as general material on UK and international news. To get to the various radio services and live streams, simply click on any of the "radio" links.
The latest editions of this publication focus in great detail on clandestine radio operations as they relate to Iraq conflict. Be sure to check back regularly for updated information.

There are two wars going on against the regime of Saddam Hussein. One of them — the information war — has been going on continuously since the Gulf War of 1991. This dossier attempts to bring together the different strands of media activity. It will be expanded and updated to include latest developments. Daily reports are posted here detailing information obtained by various services from media in the region. Be sure to follow this site regularly to hear what is going on in Iraqi media.

Reuters launched an Internet service Wednesday to offer unnarrated war-related video footage and live news conferences, government briefings and other events. The service is free but is expected to become a paid offering in the future, the company said. The new offering "captures the scale of Reuters editorial operation and unrivalled expertise of our reporting team in and around Iraq," said Rich Sabreen, an executive vice president at Reuters. He said the news service has 150 journalists in the Middle East covering the Iraq story. Reuters does not plan to make the channel a fulltime venture after an Iraq conflict's end. The "raw video" service is expected to be made available "from time to time in conjunction with specific activities and world events," the company said.
This is the official website of the United States Department of Defense, obviously dominated with continuing reports on the war in Iraq.

The U.S. Defense Department's unconventional war against terrorism has spawned an unconventional Web site to report news about that war: DefendAmerica.mil. The new site offers the latest news, photographs, transcripts and other information about the U.S.-led global effort against terrorism. As DefendAmerica's editor, David Jackson, put it, "If it has anything to do with the war, we're interested." The Defense Department launched the site before Operation Enduring Freedom began last October. The goal was to inform the public, both in the U.S. and abroad, of what the U.S. was doing to combat global terrorism, according to Victoria Clarke, assistant secretary of defense for public affairs.
The World Watch Monitor was first activated on the morning of September 11, 2001. Its primary purpose was to provide a timeline of events so that corporations and individuals could quickly and easily obtain an update of the ongoing situation. During its first 72-hours of operation, the World Watch Monitor received more than 1 million hits. In addition to providing a useful service to the community during a time of crisis, the transcript of the first World Watch Monitor now serves as a historical document, representing perhaps the only minute-by-minute timeline of the tragic events of September 11th. Since then, the World Watch Monitor has been activated on only a handful occasions and is generally reserved for critical situations. It is obviously active now.
[25 March: this site is currently unavailable.] The website which carries the Iraqi News Agency (INA) as well as Iraqi daily and weekly press sites became inaccessible last week. It is still down, but you might like to keep checking it out in the event that it is reactivated.
From Iran, this national news service offers up war coverage from an Iranian perspective. Be sure to check the "News" links section.
This is a collection of news in English from the Arab world, including overall news coverage and specific pages for individual Arab countries.
Regular reports from Iraq, co-ordinated by the group "Democracy Now" a nationwide, daily, independent radio and TV news hour pioneering the largest public media collaboration in the country are found on this site.
