Welcome to Vol. 4 Number 04 of the Radio H.F. Internet Newsletter. Previous issues of this newsletter can be found at www.anarc.org/cidx/radiohf/ [right here! — Ed.].

Hello to everyone. It seems that the concept of a survey question attracted a lot of attention last month, with 49 people responding. Another question is awaiting you in this month's Newsletter, together with the results from last month.

Our Monthly Special Zone this month features some rather unique events for the month of April. Although none of the major holidays fall in the month of April, we do take a look at some more unique events being held this month, including the switch to Daylight Saving Time. As a result of the time change, remember to make the adjustments for all your favourite broadcasts which might be affected by the time change. Keep in mind though that UTC time does not change. It is constant.

The March Survey results

A special thank you to the 49 people who took the time to respond to last month's survey. Here are the results:

Which Internet Browser do you use?

34 votes for Internet Explorer
12 votes for Netscape
3 votes for Opera

Which is your favourite search engine?

33 votes for Google
5 votes for Copernic
4 votes for Yahoo
3 votes for Altavista
2 votes for Dogpile
1 vote for MSN
1 vote for Sympatico

What is your most important website; the one that you could not live without?

There were a wide variety of sites mentioned here, to many to list them all out. There were a few trends appearing though. The type of sites that received the most mentions were news-related sites, such as CNN, Drudge Report, Indy Media, The Globe and Mail, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News and the BBC.

Several radio-related sites received multiple votes including Glenn Hauser's World of Radio, Hard Core DX, Strong Signals, Radio Amateurs of Canada, the American Radio Relay League and QRZ.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate.

The April Survey

The Internet has made is simple to access radio stations from around the world. It has also created thousands of unique, on-line radio stations which are not available on conventional radio. This month's question is a two-part question.

Do you use the Internet to listen to radio?

If your answer is yes, what is your favorite station to listen to on the Internet? If it is an on-line radio station, please give us the details of the station, with its URL, so that others may listen.

Please send in your response, including "Survey Response" in the subject line, to hfnewsletter@yahoo.com. The results will be published next month.

There you have it. Now, on to this month's batch of websites. I hope you enjoy them. Thanks to everyone who submitted material. Let's here from a few more of you over the next 30 days. Your input is always appreciated.

The Museum of the City of New York presents a bit of history and a wellspring of emotion inspired by the 2001 World Trade Center attacks. Learn about the construction of these skyscrapers, then see how New Yorkers reacted to their fall with spontaneous memorials at nearby Union Square Park. Some of these tributes are simply reflective, such as a schoolteacher's poetic query about normalcy after 9/11. Others are more evocative, like the quilt that depicts bombing in Afghanistan or the painting where the Stripes of the U.S. flag morph into gashes or wounds. Still others look to the future, such as a letter about the symbolism behind Japanese paper cranes.

The Cold War, managed to last for close to fifty years. Many of us who were employed during the 50's and the 60's are quite familiar with terms and acronyms such as the North America Air Defence Command (NORAD), the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line, the Mid-Canada Line and the Pinetree Line. This website is dedicated to the many thousands of men and women who spent a part of their life on the Pinetree Line. I have often wondered exactly how many people actually worked at the radar stations that formed the Pinetree Line. We have to remember that these radar stations were operational from coast to coast and that some of the Pinetree Line radar stations were operational for close to forty years.

Who was the nastiest, most despised, and fearsome dictator of the 20th century? Names like Castro, Duvalier, Hitler, Mao, and Marcos spring to mind. And hey, don't forget Pol Pot, Mussolini, and Kim Il Sung -- they were pretty bad hombres, too. This tongue-in-cheek site dissects infamous deeds and atrocities and pits autocrats against each other for the ignominious title of Dictator of Dictators. We won't give away the outcome, but there are no Cinderella stories in the final round. While you're poking around, stop by the "Who's Hot and Who's Not section" -- Slobodan Milosevic continues to slide, while Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe remains red hot.
