Welcome to Vol. 4 Number 02 of the Radio H.F. Internet Newsletter. Previous issues of this newsletter can be found at www.anarc.org/cidx/radiohf/ [right here! — Ed.].

I hope our subscribers who are football fans, like I am, enjoyed the 2002 Superbowl. It was a great game and it's always nice to see the underdog come through. We had our 16th annual Superbowl party here. It makes the game much more fun when you can enjoy it with good food and good friends, as I did.

The Newsletter this month includes a few special sites. New Orleans was not only the site for the Superbowl, but Mardi Gras gets underway tomorrow. I've included the official site of Mardi Gras for your pleasure. I've also included a site focusing on information on the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday.

I think my favourite site this month is in the Fun and Services Zone. It deals with those annoying infomercials that we all stumble across channel surfing on late night TV. It really proves that you can find a site for just about anything!

If you really enjoy all the sites that our contributors share with us each month, all for free, please consider sending along some of your favourite sites on the Net to share with our subscribers. I welcome on board another batch of new subscribers this month. Let's see you in the Contributors' Zone soon, and often.

So, let's get things going for another month. Enjoy!

www.reelradio.com
Via: Sheldon Harvey, Greenfield Park, Quebec

This one has been included in the Newsletter before, but it is worth mentioning again, particularly for anyone with an interest in the history of Top 40 radio in North America. Be sure to check out the "Collections" section. The site is updated weekly. Here is how the site describes itself: "The Repository is about Top 40 Radio, the last great 'mass-appeal' music format, before 'variety' became 'diversity' and every popular music station took a small, specialized piece of what was once a very big American Pie. It's also about a time when little local radio stations were independently owned and important entertainment resources in the communities they served."

This website is dedicated to scanner radio hobbyists who are frequency hunters. On here you will find lists of Ontario radio frequencies that are not listed on any website, published in any scanner book (Haruteq or Scantrix) or listed in the government frequency list (Industry Canada's TAFL). This list is all based on research and the patience of the people who contribute to this website. You can email Matthew with any questions of comments you may have. If you would like to you can sign my guest book or check out Matthew's personal website. Come on in, look around and I hope you enjoy your stay

One of the greatest tools available to the scanner listener, or other radio hobbyists, is the frequency counter. My experience with clients shows that there are a lot of misconceptions about counters; what they do, how they work, what is their range, etc. This page helps to answer some of the basics.

The Padgett site has been around for years and holding. It should be useful to anyone interested in collecting and restoring Trans-Oceanics. The history one of the most famous, if not the most famous shortwave portable ever built, is fascinating. There is lots of technical information for the tube models.
I'm sure you've seen those bizarre, annoying, but sometimes hilarious 30-minute commercials on late night TV. Well, this website gleans laughs from the tacky world of television infomercials. All sorts of infomercials are featured here, old and new, famous and obscure — the more ludicrous the item and the lamer the sales pitch, the better. The web master does not review the products, but laughs at things that are funny or silly in the infomercials themselves and does not endorse or denounce any of the products sold.

You've probably all seen it, the silvery grey adhesive tape, I assume, originally developed for use on ducts. Well, this invention has grown to mean a lot of things to a lot of people. This site gathers together some of the most creative, bizarre and downright stupid uses for duct tape. To Canadians, and some Americans, exposed via television to The Red Green Show, will understand the logic behind some of these applications!
