Welcome to Vol. 3 Number 03 of the Radio H.F.
Internet Newsletter. Previous issues of this newsletter can be found at www.anarc.org/cidx/radiohf/index.html [right here! -- Ed.].

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

If you remember, last month, I began a new two new features, the Question of the Month, and the Website of the Month. Well, it appears that these features didn't go over too well with most of you. This newsletter is now sent out to over 1000 e-mail addresses. Would you believe I received a grand total of 8 replies. 8 REPLIES!!. Thank goodness we receive a better turnout for our contributors each month or this would be a pretty small Newsletter.

We'll try it again this month and see what happens. Hopefully you have been sufficiently embarassed by this miserable turnout, and it will spark an improved response!

I hope that, at least, you will continue to contribute interesting websites. We have another excellent batch this month. If you find something interesting on the web that you would like to share with your fellow subscribers, please send it along. The e-mail address for all contributions and comments is hfnewsletter@yahoo.com. Remember that contributors are entitled to a 2% discount on their next purchases from Radio H.F.

The list of upcoming amateur radio fleamarkets and hamfests continues to grow. If your group has an event scheduled, please feel free to send details along to me and I will gladly add it to the list.

I would like to remind everyone about the scope of the material covered in this Newsletter. I have had to delete a number of submissions over the past few months that have really been wandering far away from the original purpose of this newsletter. I would like to confine the subject matter of the sites we include to cover the areas of radio (all aspects), communications, telecommunications, technology, computers, science, etc. If you look back over previous editions in the archives, you will see that we have covered a lot of material, particularly in the General Zone. So, if you submitted something and didn't see it appear in the Newsletter, then I have probably determined that it is a little too far outside of the scope. The other reason could be that it has already been featured in a previous edition. Of course, in the Fun and Services Zone, we tend to get a little strange at times, mainly for some comic relief.

So, on to this month's collection of web sites. No real theme to this month's selections, but I did include some sites about Iraq, and the Middle East, in The General Zone, given that tensions are high again with the recent US/UK air strikes on Iraq.

The Question and Site of the Month Zone

February Question: Do you have unlimited access time on the Internet (yes or no), and do you use telephone access (indicate speed), or high-speed access to the Internet?

Answer: With only eight responses, the numbers don't mean all that much. It was split 5 to 3 in favour of unlimited access, and 56K telephone access was the most popular method of accessing the Internet.

March Question: David Shindler of Toronto, Ontario suggested this month's question. He would like to know how many of you use computers to receive shortwave broadcasts. If so, are you using any special software programs, configurations or equipment to do so?

February Website: Which web site from this month's selection of web sites did you find the most helpful, useful, or interesting?

Answer: The most helpful, interesting or useful website from last month's Newsletter was Submarine Communications Master Plan, according to your votes.

Please respond to this month's question and also vote for your choice for Web Site of the Month from this month's Newsletter. Results will be published next month. Please send your responses by e-mail to: hfnewsletter@yahoo.com. Results will be published next month.

Don King, Williamsport, Pennsylvania: "As a new subscriber to your newsletter, I just wanted to say thank you for a job well done. Never before have I found such a lot of web sites in one place, and not all about the radio hobby. I had an inkling that it might be a cut and dried newsletter like so many others. But yours is a breath of fresh air, as far as I am concerned. This is just fantastic. I don't see how you manage to come up with all the time that it takes to do this, your business, and all the other concerns you must have going. I applaud you for the extra effort that must be put into endeavours such as this."

Jeff G. of Old Time Radio: "I am so excited about this wonderful news! I only wish I knew enough to be able to put a visit counter on my webpage. I would like to thank you for the recognition, and should mention that I think my father was more excited about the news than I. He has heard of you, and is an avid member of the Ontario DX Club. Thanks again (for including my site)."

Mike Boone, Montreal, Quebec: "I love your choice of web sites and I've been bookmarking like crazy. Thanks!"
