Welcome to Vol. 2 Number 09 of the Radio H.F. Internet Newsletter. I would also like to remind everyone that all previous issues of this newsletter can be found at www.anarc.org/cidx/radiohf/index.html [right here! -- Ed.].
As the weather begins to turn, and the summer fades to autumn, many of us will be heading to more indoor activities, hopefully one of them being radio. The DX season has begun and hopefully propagation will be good throughout the autumn and winter months. We will also probably be spending more time in front of the computers, on the Internet. So feel free to send along any new sites you find related to radio, the media, communications, telecommunications, science, technology, and other related fields. Of course, feel free to submit some of the unique, strange or oddball sites you might stumble on as well, for the Fun and Services Zone.
Given the upcoming Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney, Australia, beginning later this week, I have included some sites relating to the games, in particular focusing on media coverage of the event. See the special Olympic Zone. I hope you find the sites interesting and informative.

The International Radio Report, on CKUT-FM Radio McGill, 90.3 MHz FM in Montreal, is available via the Internet on RealAudio at www.ckut.ca, Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM Eastern time (1430 UTC, 1530 UTC after 28 October). Co-hosts Bill Westenhaver and I present this weekly half-hour of news, information and developments in radio broadcasting. Check out the CKUT website for the station's complete list of unique programmes.
It is now possible to listen to the International Radio Report whenever you like. Thanks to the initiative of one of our longtime listeners, Ricky Leong, archived editions of the programme are available on demand at members.fortunecity.com/crazyaboutradio/. Every Sunday evening, on the West Island Amateur Radio Club (www.PubNIX.Net/wiarc/) 2-metre repeater, 146.910 (-600), following the Swap Net at 20:00 Eastern, tune in for the Montreal DX Listeners Net, a net featuring news about all aspects of radio, shortwave, AM/FM, utilities, scanning, amateur radio. Included are listening tips, developments in broadcasting, reception reports, HF and scanner frequency information, special topics, questions and comments. This net has been running for almost 7 years, and has had over 500 different participants during this period. The net is operated by Sheldon Harvey, VE2SHW. Please feel free to participate. The Swap Net begins at 20:00, followed by a calendar of events including upcoming hamfests, amateur radio contests and special events amateur stations, plus a list of local events and meetings. The DX Net usually begins around 20:20 or 20:30 Eastern, and runs to approximately 22:00.

On Thursday evenings at 20:00 Eastern, on 147.270 MHz VE2RED, Steven Faguy, VA2SMF, is the net controller for this weekly 2m net dealing with all matters computer related. Ask questions, discuss computer problems, hear about computer news and websites. Please feel free to check in and participate.
