Introduction

Disclaimer: The content and comments included in the websites featured in this newsletter are those of the individuals, groups or organizations responsible for each website. They do not necessarily represent those of the editor, unless specifically noted.

Welcome to Vol. 1 Number 7 of this on-line publication. Don't forget that copies of the previous issues of the Newsletter can be found at www.anarc.org/cidx/radiohf/index.html (right here! -- Ed.).

The distribution of the Newsletter continues to grow. Many new names have been added to the list of subscribers this month. If you have a friend or family member who would like to receive the Newsletter by direct e-mail, simply have them send me a note with their e-mail address, and they will be added to the list. This has truly become an international publication, with contributions now having been received from 11 countries.

The Newsletter has been profiled several times over the last month, resulting in many new people coming on board. First, Radio Amateurs of Canada mentioned the Newsletter in their bi-monthly magazine The Canadian Amateur. Also, one of the most popular sites for DXers and radio hobbyists, Dxing.com, has added a link to the Newsletter on their site. The radio and television critic, Mr. Mike Boone, of the Montreal Gazette newspaper also mentioned us in a recent column, drawing attention to the site as well. I thank them all for their efforts.

The variety of material covered in the profiled web sites each month has been expanding. In addition to radio related sites in the Radio Zone, sites dealing with the media (newspapers, magazines, etc.), journalism, communications, science and technology, space, military, etc. have made up the General Zone. The bizarre, humourous, quirky, as well as a collection of general purpose and information sites have appeared in the Fun and Services Zone.

Some people have submitted sites relating to other subject matter, which I have chosen to pass on. It would be very easy to branch out into other areas of specialty but, for the foreseeable future, I am going to remain within the boundaries set so far.

Please feel free to send along any interesting sites you may find. Remember that a 2% discount is offered on any purchase from Radio H.F. to those whose names appear in each month's Contributors Zone. So, let's get going with this month's sites.

Uniden Bearcat BC-245XLT Trunktracker II scanner

Uniden Bearcat has been one of the most famous and reputable names in scanning equipment for many years. Offering complete lines of portable, mobile and base units, you can choose the scanner which best fits your needs.

The hottest product on the scanner scene is now available in Canada, through Radio H.F. It is the new Uniden Bearcat BC-245XLT Trunktracker II portable scanner. This unit has 300 memories, 12 bands, covering 29 to 956 MHz (cellular blocked), 100 channel per second scanning rate, and 100 and 300 steps per second search speeds. The exciting news is that the Trunktracker is capable of following both the Motorola and G/Tracker (EDACS) systems of trunking, used in many of today's communication systems.

The first production run of this scanner is now sold out in North America. You can reserve one for the next shipment by placing your order now with Radio H.F., by phone, fax, or by e-mail.

You can check out this unit, as well as the full line of Uniden Bearcat scanners, by visiting the Uniden website (www.uniden.com/docs/product/proline.htm). Click on Bearcat Scanners and all current models will be displayed. Also look into other product lines by Uniden, also available at Radio H.F., such as CB radios, marine equipment, and cordless phones.

To find all the latest information, user comments, reviews, etc., on the BC-245XLT, please check out the best site on the web for complete scanning information, Strong Signals by Rich Wells (www.strongsignals.net).
