Introduction

Disclaimer: The content and comments included in the websites featured in this newsletter are those of the individuals, groups or organizations responsible for each website. They do not necessarily represent those of the editor, unless specifically noted.

Welcome to Vol. 1 Number 4 of this on-line publication. I thank all who continue to send along their words of encouragement, as well as their contributions. Many of you have expressed your concern at the time that must be required to put this newsletter together. Well, it is somewhat time consuming, but I find that I am learning shortcuts as I go along, plus the great reaction from the recipients makes it all worth it.

Special thanks to Rachel Baughn of Monitoring Times magazine for running an item about the Radio H.F. Internet Newsletter in their May 1999 issue. As a result we have many new subscribers this month.

I'd like to remind everyone of the incentive program being offered to contributors. Everyone who sends in material used in the newsletter will receive a 2% discount on their next purchase from Radio H.F., either in store or via mail order. Contact Radio H.F. for complete details on this offer. This applies to each issue of the Newsletter.

No major changes this month, but I have dropped last month's Crisis Zone and incorporated a few sites relating to Kosovo into the General Zone.

Get your clicker fingers ready and let's get on with this month's selections. I hope you enjoy them.

April 1999 Feature Products -- Icom Receivers

Icom, known for its wide variety of amateur radio equipment, also offers a number of receivers, covering HF, VHF/UHF, and full coverage units. One of the most popular portable units to hit the market in years is the IC-R2, a wideband receiver, covering 0.5 to 1300 MHz, with 450 memory channels, all in a small package which will easily fit in a shirt pocket. Very big performance in a very little box. The IC-R10E is this unit's big brother, covering the same frequency range, but with sideband, and 1000 memories! Icom also offers two PC based receivers, the PCR-1000 and the new PCR-100. These black boxes interface with your computer, display the radio controls on screen, and are controlled from your keyboard, or mouse. For the higher end receivers, you can choose from the IC-R8500A, the IC-R9000A, and the new IC-R75, covering 30 kHz to 60 MHz. This unit replaces the ever popular IC-R71A, a standard for many years.

Important note: We carry the export versions of these receivers in Canada which, therefore, have no frequency blocks, in accordance with Canadian regulations.
